I used Malabrigo Mecha for the trees for a thicker tree to support the weight of the buttons and went up to a #8 needle. Quick and easy to knit for gift giving, and a wonderful way to use up beautiful buttons in your collection. I knit the tree twice, then stitched them together with right sides facing out. At this point the buttons are sewn on one side only. I chose some favorite buttons I had in my collection including many antique buttons, as well as a beautiful antique ring that is carved from bone as a hanger. I will hang mine all year round in my fairy room, but it can also be considered a decoration for the Christmas season. The buttons you choose will make yours unique for you. This was a good opportunity for me to use some favorite buttons I had in my collection including some antique buttons. The tree measures approximately 15" high by 7.5" wide. Over 1,000 years ago the Five Nations, which consisted of the Mowhawks, Oneidas, Onandagas, Cayugas, and Senecas, were brought together in peace at Onondaga Lake by the Peacemaker and Hiawatha (Hayenhwátha). Together they planted the Great Tree of Peace (Skaęhetsiˀkona) and created the Haudenosaunee Confederacy. The Tree of Peace became a symbol for the unity. I placed an antique carved button in the shape of a gun to symbolize the laying down of arms.
Lorna Pearmanhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11277013754486573843noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4402365525310681864.post-19113526883065697632022-11-12T16:38:00.001-08:002022-11-12T16:38:49.734-08:00Raspberry Bramble Afghan
A new pattern..."Raspberry Bramble Afghan" from Peargirl Knits. unfurling silver fern frond. It is an integral symbol in Māori art, carving and tattooing,
where it symbolizes new life, growth, strength and peace. I chose an Embossed Moss Stitch ribbing, then charted out unfurling fern fronds for the body of
the hat. I topped the hat with “fern fronds”, working tendrils using Cat Bordhi’s method,
adapted from Annie Modesitt’s technique.

A Chevron Rib begins this easy to knit hat, and the body is simple purl and knit triangles giving the hat a squishy soft texture that has a lot of stretch.

Just finished these for my grandson Orion as a Christmas gift. The pattern is by Tara Jon Manning. First photo is the back, second photo is the front view. Quick to knit but the details were time consuming although fun to do using duplicate stitch. I already had the moon buttons so they were an obvious choice. My daughter loves them. <span style="background: white; color: black; font-family: "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 10.0pt;">Nature Spirits are the guardians of Mother Earth. They are believed to
exist on a different dimension than humans but can freely travel to our
dimension. This usually occurs around Spring or Fall when Nature is in a stage
of transition. The large cable is made of lacy leaves vining their way between
2 meandering forest paths and is repeated 4 times around the hat. Embroidery is
done once the knitting is complete in a bright green, reminiscent of moss and new
Spring growth emerging from the Forest floor. Available here and on Ravelry https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/woodland-spirits-hat

I took a 7 hour class from a master, Paula Dockter, and she's from Dexter as well. So here I am, not even halfway done yet, but it is so exciting to be learning something new. It is double sided so each row is knit twice (once with each color) before you turn your work, and if you boo-boo it is definitely an exercise for your brain cells to fix. So here is my progress so far...can you see the leaves?
